From 1923 to 1930 he has been Richard Ginori’s artistic director and founded Domus magazine in 1928, which he presided over almost constantly until his death. Ponti made an intensive contribution to the renewal of the Italian production in the sector, giving it new impetus, supporting initiatives likethe Monza Biennale, then the Milan Triennale, the Compasso d’Oro awards and ADI (Association of Industrial Design). In 1957 he designed the super-celebrated Superleggera chair for Cassina, the crowning achievement of a long and fruitful working association.
Sambonet
In 1856 Giuseppe Sambonet obtained the Master Goldsmith’s patent and established the Giuseppe Sambonet company. In 1932, Sambonet, the first in Italy, built a production plant on an industrial scale capable of combining the production of massive silverware with that of galvanic silverware. In 1938 he developed an innovative process for the production of stainless steel cutlery and perfected the technique for silvering steel.
Since the 1960s, great designers have been creating collections that affirm and spread the company’s orientation towards design. Roberto Sambonet, in particular, creates collections of primary importance, such as the “Pesciera”, “Center line” and the “Linea 50” trays, now in the collection at MoMA in New York.
